Director of Learning (Full-Time) - Kentucky Historical Society

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is seeking a Director of Learning to lead the institution in providing engaging student and adult learning experiences as well as enriching resources for educators about Kentucky's rich history. The Director of Learning is a senior-level position overseeing a significant portfolio of KHS's history education-related programs and services, including highly popular field trips to the KHS campus and participation in National History Day in Kentucky. In close collaboration with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and the leadership across KHS, they implement activities at the Kentucky History Center, Kentucky's Old State Capitol, and the Kentucky Military History Museum. The Director of Learning serves as a member of the KHS Leadership Team and plays an integral part in the advancement of the Kentucky Historical Society's mission.

Historical Researcher: Slavery History & Public Interpretation (Part-Time, Temporary) - Kentucky Department of Parks

The Kentucky Department of Parks is seeking a Historical Researcher (funded by an America250KY grant) to lead research on the history of enslavement at state park sites—especially the Butler-Turpin State Historic House. This role will uncover, document, and interpret the lives and contributions of enslaved individuals to ensure inclusive, research-based storytelling.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct archival research using estate, census, property, and personal records.
  • Develop accurate and accessible public content for exhibits, tours, and digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with park staff and community partners to ensure historical integrity.

Ideal candidate:

  • Strong background in 19th-century history and archival research.
  • Skilled in interpreting historical documents and translating findings for public audiences.
  • Degree in History, Public History, African American Studies, or similar (Master’s preferred).

The Kentucky Department of Parks is hiring a part-time Historical Researcher (funded by an America250KY grant) to explore and interpret the history of Cherokee State Park, Kentucky’s historic African American state park in western Kentucky. This role will document and share the stories of the people, communities, and cultural significance that made Cherokee State Park a vital space for recreation and heritage during segregation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct archival and oral history research focused on Cherokee State Park and its African American heritage.
  • Develop clear, engaging content for exhibits, interpretive materials, tours, and digital media.
  • Collaborate with park staff, local historians, and community partners to ensure authenticity and inclusivity in storytelling.

Ideal candidate:

  • Experienced in 20th-century African American history, public history, or oral history research.
  • Skilled in analyzing historical documents, photographs, and personal narratives.
  • Hold a degree in History, Public History, African American Studies, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Director of Engagement (Full-Time) - Historic Locust Grove

Historic Locust Grove seeks a strategic and dynamic Director of Engagement to lead and grow public-facing programs, interpretive events, community partnerships, and mission-based experiences. This role develops, implements, and executes a comprehensive annual program calendar with a focus on meaningful engagement, mission impact, and strategic audience growth while preserving the historic integrity of the site.

This position serves as a mission-focused ambassador, ensuring our programs reflect the values, hospitality, and interpretive goals of Historic Locust Grove. The Director of Engagement works collaboratively across all departments.
